5 Typical Speaker's Mistakes

To make your speech convincing and resultative, it's necessary not only to prepare well and to plan your event in details. It is very important to think about mistakes, which can significantly reduce efficiency and success of your presentation.

What problems are the most common?

Poor start

A slow and sleeping entry, a long story about yourself – an amazing person and specialist – leads to missing of several key moments of your speech. These moments could guarantee the audience's attention and interest throughout the whole performance. But if the attention is lost and the interest doesn't appear in the beginning – your result will be unsatisfying. Imagine that you have to jump through a big stone gap. What you need to do? Start fast, accelerate well and jump. If you start bad or accelerate slowly, you'll fall down. The same is with your speech.

Bad quality of speech

If the speaker makes no pauses in his speech, it can sound like white noise – the attention of his audience fades very quickly and results of the lecture may be unsuccessful. To ensure that the audience correctly understands the information and pay attention to your speech, make pauses after the each part of information. It is very important to clear the speech of unnecessary sounds and words-parasites – pause should be a pause, no extra and meaningless sounds.

Lack of emotions and gestures

Monotonous conversation leads to the sleeping audience. This is a great chance to sleep and rest for them – so they didn't come to your conference for nothing. But do you have the same goal? Only if you are a hypnotist or reading a group prayer now. The same problem is when the speech is too boring, saturated with facts, without emotion, stories, attempts to engage the audience. Who cares how many tons of iron grilles were renewed in the restoration of historic buildings, audience is interested in a history of this building, people who lived there, in legends associated with it. Your gestures must also match the conversation – do not be closed, underline your speech accents with hand movements.

Lack of interaction

The reasons are internal: a narcissist speaker focuses on HOW he acts, not WHAT he says, bored speaker talks indifferently, beginner speaker may not know how to ask people for a dialog. Therefore, he is presenting alone, and the audience is separated. Both sides are left with some unpleasant aftertaste and may not meet another time. Ask and answer questions, engage people in conversation, make polls and surveys. If the audience is very large (a big hall, at least try to speak addressed and emotional, sometimes looking into the eyes of certain participants. By the way, standing behind the podium prevents interaction, it separates the speaker from his audience, prevents energy moving.

No attention to attention

When they don't listen to you - you will not be understood. All your efforts will go in vain. That's why it is very important to speak only being sure that they are listening to you. Ask for this attention – you can tell about this, you can stop speaking. In any case, it is necessary to monitor the pulse of the audience, to ensure that the people are involved in the process, understand you, participate in your event. Make the analysis of your audience's interests and try to match them: all the attention will be yours from the first to the last word.
